Aberdeen is well known as the "Granite City". The buildings can look fairly grey on a cloudy day, but come to life on when the sun shines.
It is also referred to as the "Oil capitol of Europe". The main eveidence of this is the very active harbour with supply boats coming and going, usualy with several moored offshore as well. The city is also host to a lage number of offices for oil companies and oil industry service companies.
Next to the harbour is the old fishing village of Footdee, more usualy called Fittie. A planned village of regular fishermens' houses, to which were added a lagre number of "unofficial" outhouses.
