Menaggio

This is one of the larger towns outside of Como itself. It is on the west bank in an area referred to as "Central Lake" This is the most popular area of the lake with three towns connected by passenger and car ferries, Menaggio, Varenna and Bellagio.

Menaggio is the largest of these and has everything you would expect in a small town. It has a small largely pedestrianised central area leading off an attractive town square. The Tourist Information office is found in this square.

The "Trombetta Express". This train trundles slowly between Menaggio and Lenno. It is neither the fastest nor most comfortable means of transport. Seats are hard and the journey takes about half an hour. The ferries cover the same distance in about the same time and in considerably more comfort. Still it has to be done, and provides the opportunity to travel the roads at a leisurely pace in the knowledge that nobody is going to hoot at you.
